How to Create an Additional Domain in DirectAdmin

DirectAdmin allows you to host multiple domain names under a single hosting account, depending on your hosting package.

This guide explains how to add an additional domain in DirectAdmin.

What Is an Additional Domain?

An additional domain allows you to host another website separately under the same hosting account.

Examples:

yourdomain.co.za
anotherdomain.co.za

Each domain can:

  • display its own website
  • have its own email accounts
  • use its own SSL certificate
  • run its own WordPress installation

Before You Start

Before adding a domain, make sure:

  • Your hosting package supports multiple domains
  • The domain name is registered
  • The domain points to your HostworX hosting account
  • You can log into DirectAdmin

If you have not logged in yet, please see:

  • How to Log Into DirectAdmin

Important DNS Requirement

Before the domain will work correctly, the domain should point to the correct HostworX nameservers or hosting IP address.

DNS propagation may take time after updating nameservers.

How to Add an Additional Domain

Step 1 — Log Into DirectAdmin

Open your browser and visit:  https://cp.yourdomain.co.za   (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name)

Enter your hosting username and password.

Step 2 — Open Domain Setup

From the DirectAdmin dashboard:

Click:  Account Manager

Then click: Domains

Step 3 — Add a New Domain

Click: Add new

Step 4 — Enter the Domain Name

Enter the new domain name you want to host.

Example:  anotherdomain.co.za

Step 5 — Configure Domain Options

Depending on your hosting package, you may see options for:

  • bandwidth limits
  • disk usage
  • SSL support
  • PHP settings

Most users can leave the default settings.

Step 6 — Save the Domain

Click:  Create

The domain will now be added to your hosting account.

Step 7 — Upload Website Files

After creating the domain, you can upload website files using:

  • File Manager
  • FTP
  • WordPress installations

Each domain will have its own website folder.

Common Uses for Additional Domains

Hosting Multiple Businesses

Useful for hosting:

  • company websites
  • client websites
  • personal projects

under one hosting account.

Separate WordPress Websites

Each domain can run:

  • its own WordPress installation
  • separate themes
  • separate plugins

Development or Test Websites

Additional domains can also be used for:

  • development projects
  • temporary websites
  • staging systems

Important Notes

SSL Certificates Must Be Enabled Per Domain

Each additional domain may require its own SSL certificate.

We recommend enabling Let’s Encrypt SSL for all domains.

DNS Changes May Take Time

New domains may not work immediately due to DNS propagation.

Hosting Package Limits May Apply

Some hosting accounts limit:

  • number of domains
  • disk space
  • bandwidth usage

depending on package type.

Troubleshooting

Domain Not Loading

Check:

  • nameservers
  • DNS propagation
  • hosting IP settings
  • website files uploaded

SSL Warning on New Domain

Enable SSL for the new domain inside:

SSL Certificates

in DirectAdmin.

Website Displays Default Page

This usually means:

  • website files not uploaded yet
  • incorrect document root
  • DNS not fully propagated

Cannot Add Additional Domain

Possible causes include:

  • hosting package limits
  • invalid domain name
  • domain already exists on another server
  • temporary system issue

Contact HostworX support if needed.
