How to Change Your DirectAdmin Password

Changing your DirectAdmin password regularly helps improve the security of your hosting account and websites.

This guide explains how to change your DirectAdmin login password.


Before You Start

Before changing your password, make sure:

  • You can log into DirectAdmin
  • You know your current password
  • You have access to update saved passwords on your devices if necessary

Changing your DirectAdmin password will affect:

  • DirectAdmin login access
  • FTP access (if linked to the main account)

How to Change Your DirectAdmin Password

Step 1 — Log Into DirectAdmin

Open your browser and visit:  https://cp.yourdomain.co.za   (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name)

Enter your current username and password.


Step 2 — Open Password Settings

From the DirectAdmin dashboard:

Click your userprofile on the left menu circle with a man in it.

Scroll down to password management


Step 3 — Enter Your Current Password

Type your current DirectAdmin password.


Step 4 — Enter a New Password

Create a strong new password.

We recommend using:

  • uppercase letters
  • lowercase letters
  • numbers
  • symbols

Avoid:

  • simple words
  • birthdays
  • company names
  • reused passwords

Step 5 — Confirm the New Password

Re-enter the new password carefully to confirm it.


Step 6 — Save the Password

Click: Change Password

Your new password is now active.


Recommended Password Practices

Use Unique Passwords

Avoid using the same password for:

  • email accounts
  • WordPress logins
  • FTP accounts
  • other websites
  • dont use your domain name or username in the password. ie admin123,etc

Use Long Passwords

Longer passwords are generally more secure.


Store Passwords Safely

We recommend using a trusted password manager where possible.


Important Notes

Update Saved Passwords

After changing your password, update saved passwords in:

  • FTP software
  • FileZilla
  • browsers
  • scripts/applications
  • stored website settings

Keep Passwords Private

Never share your DirectAdmin password publicly or by unsecured email.


Password Changes Apply Immediately

The new password usually becomes active immediately after saving.


Troubleshooting

Cannot Log In After Password Change

Check:

  • Caps Lock
  • password spelling
  • saved browser passwords
  • copied spaces before/after password

Try typing the password manually.


FTP Stops Working

Update the FTP password in your FTP application if the FTP account uses the main hosting password.


Browser Keeps Using Old Password

Clear:

  • saved browser passwords

  • autofill entries

before trying again.
